2 weeks pass quickly, pass by slowly

July 17, 2010

These past couple of weeks have literally been some of the busiest days of my life.  The first morning here in Israel, we woke up at 5am to put together some tarps to cover our excavation site.  This took about five hours and we still had a few more hours to put into in the next day.  Every day after, we wake up at 4am and dig till 1pm.  The day doesn’t end there though – while everyone else rests, washes pottery, attends lecture, and chills out with their new friends – I book it to the office and scramble to enter elevations and other things into the database, edit old top plans,  create top plans for three different supervisors,  and figure out anything I missed out on the dig site.   Et Cetera!

I knew that this position would keep me occupied, but I am busy every minute of every week day.  I barely get time to myself, much less, time to write or contact everyone.  So, don’t think that I’ve forgotten about you.  I am just caught up in the present.

Despite the hectic schedule, I have really loved being here.  I get to be around people that love what I do,  I am with old and new friends,  I live on a hummus and bread diet,  I’m in the sun every day, I have the best office view and I get to swim in the Mediterranean…  Most importantly for the dig, I’m told that I’m doing very well in this position.  I feel very accomplished every day I am here.  Tired, but accomplished.

I probably won’t write much more, so I apologize for getting anyones hopes up with this blog.

Let’s sit down for some coffee when we’re in the same time zone and I’ll tell you all about it.

Love,

Kristina

One fine April day…

July 3, 2010

I get a call from my good friend, Abram, after receiving a dreaded “we need to talk” message.

Luckily, what he wants to talk about is something I am more than willing to consider.  After a long and broken chat and one hour of giddy deliberation, I know without a doubt that I’m going to take him up on his offer to join the staff on Tel Dor.  For those of you who don’t know, I volunteered on this dig two summers ago and fell in love with this country.   After that summer, all I dreamed about was Israel and I knew that I would be back.  I just didn’t know it would be this soon.

So, two years later – here I am – packing up my bag for the Holy Land once again.  I leave the 4th of July and I will be here for six weeks.  I will do my best to write all of the important events here – and hopefully some of the finer details.

Thank you for reading.
